How to Safely Burn a Wooden-Wick Beeswax Candle

Joy Farrington

Whether your Goddess Apothecary candle has one wooden wick or two, a little candle care helps it burn more safely and perform the way it was designed to.

Before lighting, place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, curtains, pets, children, and anything that can catch fire. Give the candle enough space around it and make sure the vessel is sitting flat.

Wooden wicks generally perform best when kept short. Before each burn, remove the loose, charred portion of the wick according to the directions provided with your candle. If the wick is too long, the flame may become larger than intended or produce extra soot. If it’s trimmed too short, it may struggle to stay lit. She requires balance. Much like the rest of us.

If your candle has two wicks, light both during every use so the wax melts more evenly. If it has one wick, light only that wick and allow the candle enough time to begin forming an even melt pool without exceeding the recommended burn time.

Keep your candle within sight while it’s burning. Never leave it lit while sleeping, leaving the room, or leaving home. Avoid moving the vessel while the wax is melted because the glass and wax may be hot.

Do not add loose herbs, crystals, glitter, dried flowers, fragrance oils, or other objects to the wax. They may look cute online, but an open flame does not care about the aesthetic.

Follow the burn-time and stopping directions included with your candle. Stop using it when the label directs you to or when only a small amount of wax remains above the vessel base. Let the candle cool completely before touching, moving, trimming, or relighting it.

Your candle was created to support protection, prosperity, clarity, and intentional spiritual living. Giving it a safe place to burn is part of caring for both your intention and your home.
